Gateways

wp-Member comes with 5 Gateway Modules / Payment Options. Paypal, Google Checkout and Authorize.net, Trial and Free.

The Gateways page is the Seventh option within the plugin admin sidebar.

Within this page you will find 3 gateways. Free, Trial and Paypal.

You should not deactivate any gateways unless instructed to do so. Free and trial gateways will only be available if you have created a free or trial subscription. Google ande Authorize.net gateways will only be available if you have entered details into the gateways.

By clicking on edit next to each gateway, you will be able to view some extra settings detailed below.

Trial

We have recently altered the trial process. Previously, when a member registered for the trial account (if you have made a trial subscription available) the account would basically be a free account for a set period. However, this meant that due to our research around 75% of members were letting their account expire and not renewing as it involved extra action. We wanted to remove this and turn the tables around so that the user would need to take no action to become a paying member. The new trial system will send members to paypal to create a subscription with a free period. The member must cancel their subscription before their trial period expires if they do not want to be charged for their account after the trial period.

When you edit the trial option, you will see that you can set X days for free and then charge every X days thereafter. For example, if you set it to 15 days free and then $40, it would provide the member with 15 days free and would then automatically charge $40 every 15 days. We have used $ as an example, the currency is set within the paypal gateway section of our plugin which you can find detailed below.

Free

As with trial, you can add an image and description. You will also find a setting for the standard duration of free accounts. It will be set at 10 years as default, but you can change this to anything you like.

Paypal

This page is split into 4 sections.

Main settings

As with free and trial, you can add an image and description for your paypal subscription plans. Also included are:
Paypal e-mail address - This is the e-mail address that you want to use for your paypal payments.
Paypal return url
- This is the location that you want customers to be sent to once they have completed their payment at paypal.
Paypal cancel url
- This is the url that customers are sent to who go to paypal, but return to your site without completing their payment.

Subscription Options

This section contains 4 options and is the core control to your site currency, location and standard payment type. The options are:
Live switch - This drop down menu allows you to switch between sandbox mode and live mode.
Payment Type - This switches your site between one off (non recurring) payments and (recurring) subscriptions.
Currency - The currency that you want to use when billing your customers.
Local Paypal site - Which site do you want to send your users to? It is normally a good idea to select the site local to you. However, if you are running a global site that has global visitors, it may be an idea to send your customers to the united states site so you can ensure they will always see the site in english.

The remaining two sections (securing paypal buttons) have been added as an option to secure your buttons by encrypting them. This is not a required option and is made available for any users who might require it.

Setting Your Paypal Account
Your paypal account will need to know where to send the notification of confirmed payments so that your users can be activated once they have paid. Login to your paypal account and click on "Profile" and then "Instant Payment Notification". This is where you will enter the IPN address for wp-Member. If you are already using IPN for something else, wp-Member will automatically tell paypal where to send the notification when the payment has cleared. If you do not use IPN at the moment, you should enter the following IPN address http://www.YourBlogLocation.com/wp-content/plugins/wp-member/modules/paypal_paypal.php replacing YourBlogLocation with the address for your blogs front page. When you save the IPN address, make sure that you have turned on the IPN feature.

Both Google Checkout and Authorize.net modules are self explanatory, providing explanations for each option. You can read more about Google Checkout and Authorize.net on the following page: http://smartmediapro.com/client-area/knowledgebase/11/Gateways-and-Payment-Options
